The Right Gear For The Job

A&K Cranes operates a diverse fleet of mobile cranes, crawler cranes, and heavy haulage units across the South Island. From compact city cranes for tight residential sites to heavy-lift machinery for industrial projects, we have the specialised equipment to get your job done safely and efficiently.

Demag AC140

The heavy lifter of the mobile fleet. With a massive 140-tonne capacity and a main boom length of 60 metres, this crane is built for major infrastructure and industrial projects. Despite its size, the speed-dependent rear axle steering allows it to manoeuvre into surprisingly tight commercial sites.

  • Capacity: 140 Tonnes
  • Main Boom: 60m (plus extensions available)
  • Best For: Tower crane erection, heavy pre-cast panels, bridge beams, and high-reach commercial lifts.

Liebherr LTM 1080/1

A powerful 80-tonne all-terrain crane that balances high capacity with compact mobility. Featuring a 48m telescopic boom and all-wheel steering, it offers excellent reach while retaining a compact footprint for its class. It is the ideal mid-range machine for heavy construction work where a 100T+ crane is too large to fit.

  • Capacity: 80 Tonnes
  • Main Boom: 48m
  • Best For: Steel erection, general construction, and heavy machinery relocation.

Grove KMK3050

Our versatile 50-tonne “taxi crane.” It combines all-terrain capability with a road-friendly design, allowing for rapid setup on arrival. With a 38m main boom, it is perfect for standard residential and light commercial jobs where speed and efficiency are key.

  • Capacity: 50 Tonnes
  • Setup: Fast deployment with minimal footprint.
  • Best For: Truss placement, residential building sites, and general lifting.

IHI CCH 1000 Crawler

When the ground is soft or the project is long-term, the IHI 100T Crawler is the answer. Sitting on heavy-duty tracks rather than outriggers, it offers excellent stability and “pick and carry” capabilities across the site. It is a workhorse for civil infrastructure and foundation work.

  • Capacity: 100 Tonnes
  • Key Feature: Travels with the load (Pick & Carry) on rough terrain.
  • Best For: Piling, bridge construction, dragline work, and soft ground sites.

Kato NK250

A reliable 25-tonne hydraulic truck crane. Known for its robust performance, this road-legal unit travels at highway speeds to get to your site fast. It features a 33m boom and is ideal for quick lifts where a larger all-terrain crane would be overkill.

  • Capacity: 25 Tonnes
  • Reach: 33m Main Boom
  • Best For: House trusses, spa pools, light steel beams, and general taxi crane work.

Humma 25T Pick & Carry

The ultimate problem solver for tight yards and workshops. Unlike standard cranes, the Humma has no outriggers, allowing it to lift a 25-tonne load and drive it to its destination. Its articulated design lets it snake through narrow obstacles with ease.

  • Capacity: 25 Tonnes
  • Key Feature: Articulated steering for tight corners; lifts and moves suspended loads.
  • Best For: Machinery relocation, workshop lifts, and shifting containers.

Palfinger PK33002 Crane Truck

This knuckle-boom crane is mounted on a truck deck, giving you a lift-and-transport solution in one vehicle. With a hydraulic outreach of over 21 metres and High Power Lifting System (HPLS), it can deliver heavy building materials precisely where you need them.

  • Capacity: ~10 Tonne Max Lift (30mt rating)
  • Reach: Up to 21m hydraulic outreach
  • Best For: Transporting and placing timber, pallets, frames, and landscaping supplies.

Mack Granite & MTE Heavy Transporter

The backbone of our heavy logistics division. The Mack Granite is a legendary prime mover known for its raw horsepower and reliability on South Island roads. Paired with a specialist Modern Transport Engineers (MTE) low-loader trailer, this unit is engineered to carry massive weight while keeping the centre of gravity low for stability.

  • Best For: Transporting our 100T Crawler Crane, heavy excavators, bulldozers, and oversized industrial plant.
  • Trailer: Heavy-duty MTE Low Loader with hydraulic ramps for loading tracked machinery.
  • Capability: High-mass permit approved for over-weight and over-dimension loads.

19.25m Trombone Trailer

Specialised for over-length loads, this “trombone” trailer extends out to a massive 19.25 metres. It allows us to legally transport long structural components that standard trailers simply cannot handle.

  • Length: Extends up to 19.25m.
  • Best For: Long structural steel beams, bridge sections, concrete poles, and roofing iron.
  • Key Feature: Adjustable length to suit the specific load while maintaining legal overhangs.

13.2m (43′) Semi Trailer

Offering slightly more deck space than the standard 40-foot unit, this flat deck semi is perfect for general freight and bulky construction materials. The open flat deck allows for easy loading via crane or forklift from any angle.

  • Length: 13.2m (43 feet).
  • Best For: Large volumes of scaffolding, long reinforcing steel (rebar), timber packs, and general site logistics.
  • Key Feature: Extra deck length for maximizing payload per trip.

12m (40’) Semi Trailer

The industry standard for heavy transport. This robust flat deck unit is the “all-rounder” of the fleet, capable of carrying everything from shipping containers to building materials.

  • Length: 12m (40 feet).
  • Best For: 20ft and 40ft shipping containers, pre-cast concrete panels, palletised goods, and machinery.
  • Key Feature: Versatile, high-capacity transport for standard freight dimensions.

7m Heavy Trailer

A compact yet heavy-duty unit designed for tight access work. When a long semi-trailer can’t fit into a residential driveway or a small construction site, this 7-metre trailer gets the gear in.

  • Length: 7m.
  • Best For: Crane counterweights, compact heavy machinery, site equipment, and delivery into narrow properties.
  • Key Feature: Small footprint with high weight capacity; excellent manoeuvrability.
